Study levels in Canada
In order of level of study, the following college degree programs are available:
- Associate degree
- Bachelor’s degree
- Master’s degree
- Doctoral degree
Associate Degree:
Many students benefit from the flexibility and affordability of an associate degree, whether they plan to pursue a bachelor's degree or enter the workforce right away. The duration of the degree is 2 years.
Types:
Associate of Arts (AA) and Associate of Science (AS), the AA and AS degrees are excellent entry points into a field of study. Hence, they frequently assist students in transferring their education into a bachelor's degree, allowing them to complete their studies and enter the workforce.
Bachelor’s Degree:
Whether you're looking for work or stepping into the corporate world, it is a common prerequisite for employment in many fields with a bachelor’s degree. Thus, this degree exemplifies a solid, foundational level of understanding of your profession.
Types:
The most common bachelor’s degrees offered by the universities which are popular amongst the students are Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (BS), and Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA).
Master’s Degree:
Motivated students wanting to enhance their educational proficiency choose to return to college to pursue their subject of interest further. However, Master's programs typically require two to three years to complete depending on the university. In some cases, Master's programs are shorter and can be completed in a span of a year.
Courses in a Master’s program are more rigorous and are based on the knowledge gained during the Bachelor’s degree program. Regardless of what course you choose, a bachelor’s degree is a prerequisite to pursuing a master’s degree.

Doctoral Degree:
A doctoral degree, at the top of the academic degree hierarchy, represents the most in-depth education within a discipline. Thus, doctoral students are designated as authoritative experts in their field after completing a rigorous program. However, it is one of the most difficult programs and represents an in-depth education with strict discipline.
Types:
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) and Practitioner Doctoral Degrees are the most common doctoral programs offered by the universities.
